Numbing creams

Topical anesthetic creams – also known as topical anesthetics – are designed to temporarily numb the skin surface, thereby reducing discomfort during various aesthetic procedures. They are most commonly applied before injectable treatments, mesotherapy, microneedling, laser therapies, or chemical peels to enhance patient comfort. The active ingredients in these creams – such as lidocaine, prilocaine, or benzocaine – create a local nerve block, reducing the function of pain receptors in the treated area. The effect typically develops within 5–30 minutes, depending on the product and skin type. Proper protocol is essential: before applying the cream, the skin surface should be cleansed, followed by an even layer of the product, often under occlusion (e.g., with a film). After the treatment period, any residue is removed, and the procedure can begin. These products are recommended for professional use only and require knowledge of the specific anesthetic agent, as well as consideration of potential contraindications (e.g., sensitivity, allergies).
